Authentic Whiskey Tasting in Scotland
Our last evening in the Highlands of Scotland was an unforgettable one. We finished the vacation with a whisky tasting experience at the Creagan Inn outside of Glencoe. James (the owner) poured some of his best whiskeys from his collection, and we tried over 12 bottles. Most cost more than 200 pounds a bottle and he spoke about each bottle. It was so much fun!
Here are my notes from all of the whiskey’s we tied along the way.
Talisker 10 yr: got at grocery store, very smoky/peaty taste, was not a fan for the group.
Torabhaig 3 yr: great disterillery experience. Very “friendly” whisky and young.
Royal Lochagar 12 yr: game of thrones bottle, I like this one. Smooth and lot of flavor
Lagavulin 16 yr: the stableford of peaty whisky, too much peat for the group.
Talisker Amoroso Cask: Really enjoyed this one, Amoroso casks make a big difference.
Cragganmore 12 yr: remember it as my favorite, need to find in the states.
Ben Nevis: very smooth, lots of different notes. Great to drink at the top of the mountain
Oban 14 yr old: my favorite as it is a balance between slightly smoky and smooth.
Oban Little Bay: Ashley’s favorite as it is more delicate
Oban Distillers Edition: Lot of flavor in this one, too much scotch taste for Ashely
Oban Estate Distillers Edition: similar to one above
Signatory: grain only with small malt at end. Very smooth
Dewars: 200# a bottle. Slight peaty but great
Mc’Nean: smooth, fruity smell
Draftmill: very hard to find, farmers when they have time.
The Scotch :200# a bottle, 29 yr old. Ash fav!
Sheep Dip: extremely hard to find, bottled in Spain so not a scotch. Empty bottles sell for 50#. Only one batch ever made.
Glenfiddich IPA Exp: paired with his beer he made in 2020 with others. Doing a lot of experiments at Glen. Only one bottle left now!!
Glenfiddich Gran Reserva: Cuban cask so hard to get in US at times. 165# a bottle. Ashley Favorite
Spring Bank: great, slight peaty finish
Ledaig: cherry cask, sting smell
Dailuaine: one of his favorites.
Argyll: lottery style to buy the bottle. Smooth and tasty
